Troy
Troy is significant because it is accepted by archaeologists as the site of the Bronze Age settlement of Troy as depicted in Homer’s epic The Iliad. It was discovered by Heinrich Schliemann who also discovered Mycenae and really brought to the public consciousness some validity to these ancient tales. He uncovered that Troy was a major fortified city with walls extremely high and a major center of trade, the same as depicted in the epics.
Was possibly a satellite city-state of the Hittites or other Anatolian civilizations that was shown to existed for several thousand years before the Trojan War.
Displayed evidence of natural disasters and warfare which corresponded with the Homeric epic as well.
